tunnelrør-femern-belt-development

Femern A/S has received bids for the contract concerning the electrical and mechanical installations of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel.

The tender was launched in the spring of 2021 and is the next in a series of major contracts on the Fehmarnbelt connection, Femern A/S informs.

The main contracts for the actual tunnel construction, have been won by the consortia FLC and FBC, which are well under way with the preparation and construction of the connection.

Energy efficient and climate friendly solutions

In the tender material, Femern A/S has set requirements for energy-efficient and climate-friendly solutions for the equipment and the steering, monitoring and control systems that will be installed for use in the operation and maintenance of the tunnel.

The contract contains, popularly speaking, the technical guts of the tunnel, which will ensure efficient, safe and stable tunnel operation from its opening in 2029.

Contractor to be selected in 2022

The next step in the process is for Femern A/S to make a thorough assessment of the bids received. On the basis of their initial review, Femern A/S will provide information on the further course of the tender process in mid-December 2021.

The plan is to award the contract during 2022.

Good news for subcontractors

We have received three qualified bids for the next major milestone in the construction of the Fehmarnbelt connection, namely the task of equipping the tunnel with advanced equipment and technology. We will now closely examine the offers and amongst other, assess how the bidders have worked to find climate-friendly solutions,” says Jens Ole Kaslund, technical director of Femern A/S.

As with the other large contracts, it is expected that there will be the need for a large number of subcontractors for the consortia. In addition, it is a requirement that the contractors employ apprentices.
